Regarding Social Stratification in the United States and comparing this to other cultures, what is the difference between a “caste” system and a “class” system of social stratification?
Here are the social stratifications in the U.S. class system: Upper Class, Upper Middle Class, Lower Middle Class, Working Class, Working Poor, and Underclass. The homeless make up a social class beneath the social class ladder and are very much a part of our society.

• Caste system stratifies the society in to different 'castes' or levels ,which are hereditary in nature.These are religiously followed by communities, that means, were initiated centuries ago in countries like India.

• Caste system are rigid and static in nature.
• Class system can be defined as stratification of characterstics like inferiority- superiority among families in a society , which is generally seen in luxury /posh cadre.
• Class system in dynamic in nature.
• In societies , class system starts where caste system ends.
• Irrespective of the academic or financial achievements, a person born in caste system stays there lifetime.However, there are reservations in countries for jobs, specifically meant for defined castes.
• Examples of caste system are shudra, viashya, Brahmin and kshatriya, in ancient Indian tradition.
• Examples of class system are upper , middle or lower class ; elite class, low income class.
