How does ideology interact with political beliefs (and the division between elites and masses) and political culture?

Homework Answers

Answer #1
  • Political Culture is the widely shared beliefs, values and norms concerning the values and norms concerning the relationship of citizens to government and to one another and to one another.
  • Ideology is a comprehensive, integrated set of views about government and politics.
  • Political culture is the deeply rooted norms, values and beliefs a society has about political power and legitimacy and plays a large role in determining the relation of citizens to their political system.
  • Though the wealthy tend to be more socially liberal than the country as a whole, among the majority such concerns do not rank high. The issues they care about most are economic and relate, sometimes intimately, to a level of affluence which sets them wholly apart. On those issues, the wealthy tend to be quite conservative in their political beliefs. The rich want to pay less taxes and therefore support political culture which supports that belief. The poor just support that political party which can provide them with benefits right from employment to medical care and housing.
