What is the relationship between religion and ethics?
What is wrong with using religion as the foundation of morality?
Religion and ethics sometimes are interchangeably used because both of them talk about "good life". The idea of both is to make people live in harmony. However, they are different in some aspects. When it comes to ethics, it is more general and can be generalizable to a bigger section. As for religion, it is more for the particular section of people who follow it.
Religion cannot be used as a foundation of morality because there are a lot of different religions prevailing in the world. Some people who follow a particular religion may not be alright to use a principle of the other religion. With the differences that are caused due to religion in the world, having a moral law base on religion is not a wise move. Though it may be good for the society, some may not follow it because it did not originate from their religion.
