In a thoughtful essay, please answer the following questions: Reread the Loyalty Questionnaire (on googel). Would you be uncomfortable answering any of these questions? Which ones and why? If not, why not? Read questions 27 and 28. Imagine that you are an older Issei (born in Japan and immigrated to the US) and that you have not been allowed to become an American citizen. Explain any reservations or difficulties you might have answering these two questions.
I’m not uncomfortable in answering any of the questions because it’s after all a government’s duty to take into account of all its citizens, especially outsiders who or about to receive citizenships. So, I would consider this only as a census questionnaire.
Question 27 & 28, the last two questions are placed there because anyone who becomes the citizen of that country should serve only that country. If at all at any point they think about joining their country of origin in times of crisis, it would be a fatal blow to the country that gave them citizenship. So, having this in mind, the US government at that point of time during the Second World War, was testing the loyalty of the other national who were kept in different camps.
