The demographic characteristic that experts the greatest influence on crime reporting is gender. This has been empicallu supported by Avdija and Giever (2012), who examined the impact of several demographic characteristics such as gender, age, race and socio-economic status on the reporting of crime. Their results revealed that gender was the most accurate predictor of crime reporting behaviour. Males were less likely to report crime in comparison to their female counterparts, the findings being consistent with the existing literature.
