Answer #1

Social norms can be described as informal understandings that govern the behavior of members of a particular social unit. In a family, our parents can be conceptualized as the ‘heads’ who assume the responsibility for its other members and make major decisions with respect their functions. In this sense, as their offsprings, we are expected to be obedient to them in order to maintain the balance of functions that they have established. From this behaviour, we later learn to generalise this obedience to other authoritative figures in the larger social context as well.
