Social norms are expected and
accepted behaviour in a society. These are also the unwritten laws
of a particular society which was formed over a period of time.
Although norms are prone to change with time, people who don't
follow the norms are branded as outlaws and they may be expelled
from the society in collective cultures.
One such example is the queues. There is a social norm that people
need to stand in a queue when more people gather to buy or collect
something. Some people instead of waiting in the queue, bypass
everyone by pushing and moving quickly. This is a deviation from
the norms. When this happens, there will be chaos and confusion and
other members of the society will be displeased. It may also cause
oral arguments thus wasting more time.
