Explain how the demands of social living might suggest the utilitarian position instead of egoism

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The demands of social living might suggest the utilitarian position instead of egoism as utilitarian position tends to that maximize utility, or happiness, of a moral action for the greatest number of people. In contrast, the egoism holds that moral conduct should be judged through self-interest and consequences for the individual agent should outweigh the consequences placed upon others. For living in the society we cannot believe in egoism as all should be treated equally in a society and the interest of all should be considered.
