MULTICULTURAL COMPETENCE : Mio, Barker-Hackett and Tumambing’s (2012) definition of multicultural competence outlines what these skills should encompass, including:

1. Developing an awareness of one’s own cultural values and biases.
2. Learning to value others’ worldviews.
3. Developing a set of culturally appropriate interpersonal skills.

when a client begins to visit a counsellor, he/she needs help to cope with his/her life problems, mental heath conditions and changes that occur in life.They may already feel embarassed to a stranger.But it is very important for the clientsto trust their counselors that they can easily open up.So confidentiality is important.

Confidentiality can be broken, when,

•There is an imminent danger to an identifiable third party or to self;

•When a counsellor has reasonable cause to suspect abuse or neglect of a child;

•When a disclosure is ordered by a court;

•When a client requests disclosure, or

•When a client files a complaint or claims professional liability by the counsellor in a lawsuit.
