(Answer) Unit of analysis: Correlation through secondary research analysis of the artillery fire at Chechnya and how the event was related to occurrences in villages that were and were not exposed to indiscriminate attacks.

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to find the relation between insurgent attacks and crime that are indiscriminate. The author tries to look at nuanced attacks, for instance, non-affiliated hate-crimes in small towns or a single area. He focuses on the nature of such attacks by trying to find if the collective animosity results in the culmination of an insurgency. The author tries to find out if there is a direct or an indirect relationship between the haphazard small crimes and larger organised demonstrations of hate. He uses the Russian artillery fire in Chechnya as an allegory or case-study to analyse the hypothesis.
