According to some feminism is taking care of the home, while according to others it is being an equal partner in household responsibilities. According to the scholars, the feminist movement's history is divided into three "waves". The first wave is concerned with women's right to vote and it refers mainly to women's suffrage movements of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

The second wave refers to the ideas and actions associated with the liberation movement of women that began in the 1960s; campaigned for the legal and social rights for women.
