2) can a student with a fixed mindset develop a growth mindset? Explain.
3) Do you typically have a fixed mindset or a growth mindset, and how does your mindset affect you?
1) Compare and contrast the fixed mind-set with the growth mind-set (be sure to define each and address how each relates to intelligence, setbacks, learning and effort).
Fixed mind-set is where children hesitate to change and when they face a set-back they lose their confidence. These students believe that intelligence is fixed, so when someone praises them for their intelligence saying that they have achieved a very good score, they think that’s the end of their intelligence. They treat challenges as threatening and when faced with failures, they are shattered. Fixed mind-set students try to do things in the same way every time.
Growth mind-set people value their efforts, so each time someone praises them, they put more effort next time. They treat challenges as opportunities to perform well. They are more genuine than the fixed mind-set students who tend to take short cuts, tend to cheat and tend to misbehave when faced with difficulty. Growth mind-set students will try new ways of doing things if one doesn’t work.
2) Can a student with a fixed mind-set develop a growth mind-set? Explain.
Human beings can alter their way of life by altering their attitude but in order to change their attitude someone should motivate them and tell them that they can do it. Someone should counsel them saying that failures and difficulties are part of life and people excel if they continuously try things.
3) Do you typically have a fixed mind-set or a growth mind-set, and how does your mind-set affect you?
I have a growth mind-set, so I take things easy but I don’t avoid difficult tasks. I understand that only by failing I’ll be able to learn something better and I also understand that intelligence is not fixed but it’s dynamic. The more I use it the better and smarter I’ll become.
