Zimmerman himself, In a press conference, admitted that the telegram was real as well as it had been sent. Moreover, it had been a movement that distracted America and its attention from Europe and diverting it towards Mexico. Germany was afraid that America would try to intervene in war and Germany wanted to make sure that they had closer relations with the home. Germany did not intend for supporting anything between America and Mexico’s war. Moreover, American government thought of the telegram to be fake as being informed via the British govt. and they assumed that this had been a trick that the British were employing for the involvement of America that majority of their population did not support.
