Answer #1
  • Memory is influenced by the setting in which it occurs, by the events that occur to us after we have experienced an event, and by the cognitive processes that we use to help us remember.
  • Our memories fail in part due to inadequate encoding and storage, and in part due to the inability to accurately retrieve stored information.
  • The human brain is wired to develop and make use of social categories and schemas. Schemas help us remember new information but may also lead us to falsely remember things that never happened to us and to distort or misremember things that did.A variety of cognitive biases influence the accuracy of our judgments.
  • One of the cognitive biases we all experience is judging others based upon our expectations. Which is also known as confirmation bias. It happened with me in school, wherein the person I used to sit with in my class was a really nice and honest girl. she was friendly and basically very positive. I thought that because she is a good human being she would help me when I was going through a tough time but obviously the judgment went wrong. Having certain qualities doesnt mean the person would have other qualities as well that you start expecting.
  • It happened at my workplace too. We were raising donations for a cause and had hosted an event for the same wherein I met a gentleman from a big company, interacted with him and found him to confident, sociable and an extrovert. He seemed very interested in our conversation and I thought maybe he would help us. After two days I called him up and asked for help but he just made an excuse and I knew the expectations were too much based upon that interaction. Lesson learned never judge people over anything.
