What is the purpose of using a standardized measure, such as the laterality quotient?

Laterality quotients are tests that have been designed so as to test the cognitive performance of left side of the brain as well as the right side. This serves many purpose such as laterality of handedness along with a manual dexterity test. Standardised tests are used so that there would be consistent measures or standards for scoring procedures. The scores would be measured through standards that are pre determined. Hence, standardised tests are required.
