Using the idea of counter-regulation and the "What the Heck Effect" which can impact dieting how would you help a friend design his or her kitchen knowing that they are diabetic and must manage nutrition, levels of blood sugar, and weight?

Answer #1
  • Use smaller bowls, glasses and containers in kitchen. A smaller plate would mean lesser food and eating in small quantities.
  • All the carbs inlcuding breads, pastas, potatoes, rice can be kept in red containers in the kitchen to make the friend realise that these items need to be cut down in the diet. Cutting down carbs by putting them small plates and using small pans to cook them would help to regulate diet.
  • Putting up recipes which are healthier alternatives on the kitchen wall, like a schedule that needs to be followed. Also making a list of items which need to cut down and corresponding healthier options for it could be put on the kitchen fridge. Like, instead of mashed potatoes with butter and cream, try a plain baked potato with a little cottage cheese.
