Glasser (1998) indicates that choice intervention strategies are a central element of reality theory. How might these strategies be used in conjunction with other counseling theories?
Reality theories focus on the approaches thAt are involved in solving problems along with the option of making choices that are more improved, such that the person would be able to make his progress or achieve the goal that he has designed. According to Glasser, the counsellor as well as the client should be more interested in the present and the questions related to the present, rather than lingering over the past along with designating the ways in which the problem would be dealt with in the present.
Reality theory, is built up on the base that is referred to as the ‘choice intervention strategies’ which that help in reduction of behaviours that cause problems, would exult in increase of motivation as well as result in development of personal freedom. These ‘choice intervention strategies’ are used as an integrative approach along with cognitive behavioural therapies, behavioural therapies as well as REBT. Reality theories do not consider the environment when decisons are made, though it takes into account the will of a person and that the person is responsible in carrying out his actions. Choice intervention strategies motivate the client for taking responsibilities of his actions along with taking responsibility of the defiant goal and a general happiness amount present in his life.
