Answer #1

Functionalist perspective suggests that society is made-up of interconnected parts that work together to maintain harmony and equilibrium. According to this theory, the stratification is important in order for the society to progress in all aspects. Conflict perspective on the other hand suggests that the society is on a perpetual conflict for the limited resources which is mostly controlled by the owners of the production. According to functional perspective, inequality is an essential part of the effective functioning of a society and only this would balance the demands in various parts of the society effectively. According to the conflict perspective, this inequality is a manmade aspect in the society where the means of production including the labours are dominated by the owners of the production thus keeping them under their control.
