When a preteen, delinquent client presents with antisocial behavior and no occupational aspirations, should he be treated for the deliquent/antisocial behavior FIRST, and the no occupational aspirations SECOND, or both simultaneously?
One of the main causes of teen delinquency is idleness and lack of self worth. If the level of delinquency of of minor crimes, then it is imporatant to assure the teen of his/her self worth. This can be achieved by treating the teen by motivating him/her through behavioral therapy so that the need for holding a job or looking for a job becomes important. Having too much idle time leads to substance abuse and other consequences of peer pressure. Each person should develop a sense of responsilbilty.
However, if the level of delinquency is too high, then immediate treatment for delinquency must be undertaken before any thing else as this could effect himself and the community as a whole.
