Equality should make sure that all opportunities are available to all participants and that all current initiatives have a positive impact on any disadvantaged groups.

Lack of oppportunity, lack of family support, not being seen as competent, and age discrimination are all significant barriers to achieving equality.

    • Equal opportunity, a stipulation that all people should be treated similarly
    • Equality before the law, the principle under which all people are subject to the same laws
    • Equality of outcome, in which the general economic conditions of people's lives are similar
    • For specific groups:
      • Gender equality
      • Racial equality
