In class we visited a different type of sociological framework- institutional oppression theory. Give two different examples how institutional oppression may impact a child in their development. For each example, include one different outcome related to child development, and one different societal institution that might be involved. (hint- the 5 sociological institutions are listed in this exam)
Institutional oppression is deeply embedded in the social structure, such that it implicitly becomes a part of societal norms itself. In this case, for a child growing up in an environment where institutional oppression is commonplace, two extreme outcomes are possible. They can learn to accept the systematic mistreatment of individuals from a particular social group passed on to them by their family values. Or, they will reject the laws, customs or practices that reflect these inequities after receiving sufficient quality education from their educational institutions.
