Gender stereotypes in leadership may have changed over time as now in contrast to the past women are part of the workforce as leaders. However according to report by the UC Davis published in 2011; which examined 400 companies in California only 9.7 percent of boardroom seats were held by women that were top paying executive positions. Culture has played a major role in these changes as women are considered as better as care givers of the family, (Heathfield, 2017). Women are exploited sexually at work; even in the present times, which is very discouraging. Media has also played an important role as it has promoted gender stereotypes; a primary way in which media distorts reality is in the under representation of women. For example in the prime-time television, there are three times as many white men as women (Basow, 1992).
