The, the philosopher Socrates of Athens asks his fellow citizens: "Are you not ashamed that you give your attention to acquiring as much money as possible, and similarly with reputation and honour, and give no attention or thought to truth and understanding, and the perfection of your soul?" This powerful statement mentioned in Plato’s Apology questions the citizens of Athens focusing on the accumulation of wealth and social status, while forsaking the pursuit of the truth and wisdom. This tendency can be generalised to the human species in general and even the generations of today. Relentlessly chasing these goals without paying heed to the higher purposes of existence have only lead to the spread of destruction among us.
