(b) Negative attachment and discouragement of autonomy interferes with child's cognitive development - discuss.
Negative attachment is a term that explains the impacts a child will undergo because of the caregiver’s lack of attachment to the child. These children are more prone to discouragement and lack of care. Charity begins at home, similarly one’s personality and characters are developed at home, especially the early childhood experiences influence most part of one’s thoughts, behaviours and outlook.
There are three kinds of negative attachments, Avoidant Attachment which happens when a caregiver keeps discouraging the child whenever the child needs something, Ambivalent or Resistant Attachment that happens when inconsistency occurs in parenting because the caregiver doesn’t attend the child continuously and finally Disorganised or Disoriented attachment occurs when the parent’s past keeps troubling their behaviours thus affecting the child.
Negative attachment causes lots of problems such as aggressiveness, mental imbalance, depression, dependency and behavioural issues. The child will also grows with low self-confidence, self-doubt and emotional instability. They will struggle to grow into productive individuals and will struggle to remain or maintain relationships.
