Class: Adolescent Psychology (PS221)
Adolescents are definitely influenced by the religions they belong to. The entire behavior and thought are shaped by the religions at times because only then they will be included in the society. If the society is religious, the parents will be religious and in turn they will have that religious impact on their children. Religions decide the values and morals in most societies, so whoever has accepted the religion will abide by the rules set by the religion. This influence is more in developing and Islamic countries than in the developed countries.
Religions have written and unwritten rules which control everyone in its vicinity. If an adolescent doesn’t obey the rules, it affects the entire family being rejected by religion. There are also severe punishments for not obeying religious rules out of law.
Religions decide at when one should marry and who one should marry (Same race, caste or religion). The sexual behaviors are controlled by the religions as they term any sexual relationship outside the marriage as sin. People who involve in pre-marital and extra-marital sex will have a long lasting effect on their sexual development, as they will be punished if found by religion and religious people.
