What is the Myers-Briggs type indicator? What is its
relationship to Carl Jung's theory of psychological types?
Do you think the test is accurate?
Do you see yourself as different from what the test results say? If
so, how?
The Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a self-report questionnaire that assesses differing psychological preferences among individuals in terms of their perception of the world and decision making. The psychological preferences that the MBTI measures has been derived from Carl Jung’s theory of psychological types. Jung's typology theories conceptualized four cognitive functions (thinking, feeling, sensation, and intuition), each having one of two orientations (extraversion or introversion). The MBTI is based on these functions with minor variations from the model.
In my opinion, the test successfully captures four dominant individual preferences, and how these combine to give rise to 16 psychological types. To a large extent, I have found the test to be accurate. The description that was provided to me after the completion of the test corresponded to most of my traits.
