Joan's children are not able to come and spend the holidays with her. Explain the difference between an optimistic explanatory style, and a pessimistic explanatory style. Write an optimistic explanation and a pessimistic explanation for why Joan's children are not coming.
In Optimistic explanatory style, people explain an event in a positive way, and even if a event is not desirable they take into account external factors and situations which influenced the event. Whereas in pessimistic explanatory style, people interpret an event in a negative way by blaming themselves in the case of an undesirable event.
Optimistic Explanation: I had invited the children and did the best to have them over, but maybe due to some situation they were not able to come, but it doesn't matter much, they will come the next time
Pessimistic Explanation: Maybe i did not invite them properly or they do not want to visit me perhaps because they do not like to spend time with me.
