Logic and decision making developments happen rapidly during the adolescence stage. There is shift from the Piaget's concrete operational stage to the formal operational stage. In concrete operational stage, children learn to perform real world concrete mental operations and can work through simple ideas and problems. In the formal operational stage, when children enter into adolescence, they become capable of performing complex mental operations and can think about abstract concepts. They start to think in logical ways and learn to reason logically. Adolescents are very different from adults in the way they solve problems and make make decisions. The brain continues to mature during the adolescence. During the adolescence, the amygdala, which is a brain structure responsible for emotions, aggression and fear starts developing before the frontal cortex, which is the brain structure responsible for controlling our impulses and reasoning abilities.
