What steps did the U.S. take to mobilize for WWII and what role did women play in the war effort?
the government mobilized for war by setting up programs to raise money, conserve scarce resources, and coordinate government, business, and industry.
The "New Deal" under Roosevelt prepared the US for war. It built up the US industrial capability. E.G.....The Hover Dam built in the 1930's make work program supplied power to Los Alomos and the White Sands range in WW2. The Lend-Lease Deal to supply weapons to the British gave the US a good Idea as to the specifications of producing weapons for the conflict that they would be in. The British shared intelligence of German military strength and the US provided weapons to counter the threat. So dating back to the 1930's and up to Dec 7th 1941 the US had great industrial and technological capability when the war hit them. The only problem was that of manpower, but after Pear Harbour conscription solved that problem.
American women played important roles during World War II, both at home and in uniform. Not only did they give their sons, husbands, fathers, and brothers to the war effort, they gave their time, energy, and some even gave their lives.
