What are the four principles of memory improvement and learning efficiency? Describe an experiment on the testing effect and discuss how this experiment is relevant to which principle?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The four principles of memory improvement and learning efficiency:

  • Process for meaning,
  • Use of the retrieval practice effect,
  • Distributed learning is preferable to massed practice,
  • Use meta memory wisely.

The testing effect is the finding that long-term memory is increased when some of the learning period is devoted to retrieving the to-be-remembered information through testing with proper feedback. The effect is also sometimes referred to as retrieval practice, practice testing, or test-enhanced learning.
