23. In what ways are unobtrusive measures, field experiments and naturalistic observation studies superior to laboratory studies?
24. Explain how a nonsignificant outcome could be the result of faulty procedures or a faulty hypothesis?
23. Certain advantages of unobtrusive measures such as field experiments and naturalistic observation studies include them being relatively straightforward, inexpensive and quick to conduct. They may be used in preliminary or pilot studies to further future research in the field. However, the biggest strength of these measures is a higher degree of external validity, that is, their degree of generalisability to real-world situations as these measures study phenomena occurring in real time settings, making assessments of events as is.
