According to Konrad Lorenz a male deer feels challenged due to the presence of a challenger to it's harem of female deer during the mating season fights,these fights are not fatal .When the male deer feels the challenger to be stronger during the fight,it gives up because it has already been successful in passing on his genes to it's herd. And when the challenger feels weaker it gives up the fight to keep up his chances of breeding in future.Hence, the fights between the male deer are non-fatal .
