How is slavery in the period of the Roman republic similar or different to the slavery during the era of discovery?

The similarities were,in both the slaves were meant to save their masters,who didn't had any rights of their own.were considered as a property of their masters.Exptoitation was the trademark similarity in both periods.

The difference is that ,while the slaves of Romans comprised of the political prisoners,the economically poor, and the outcasts of their own society, the slaves of era of discovery were the people from the colonies. Romans freed their slaves on some conditions ,but, slaves of era of discovery didn't had such chances. Comparatively the Roman slaves were treated better than the slaves during the era of discovery.
