Description and explanation of the phenomenological approach in a form of essay
Subject: World Religions
There are a number of different beliefs that people follow around the world. These ideology or beliefs have taken a more concrete form, in the form of religion. There are 5-6 major religions in the world, and these could be identified as Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism. There are many other religions, whose followers are much lesser in number, such as Sikhism, Zoroastrianism, Taoism etc. these are also referred by some of the scholars as the religious movements.
this paradigm first came into its current form by a phenomenological scholar named ninian smart. The purpose behind understanding religion with a phenomenological approach was to understand it in a broader sense. The focus on Christianity has been a major one since a very long time, and thus to shift it to other religions, this was developed.
it is important to be understood that the religious movements exist as mutually exclusive and separate. This is not only the case in the western countries but also in the third world countries. There has been a lot of criticism faced by this paradigm since its launch. Most of its emphasis is on considering the Protestant variation of christianity in all its discussion of modern Christianity. Many others argue that this is the more practical view.
