why do young people turn out to vote at lower rates than do other age groups (e.g. seniors)?

According to some of the older people, young people vote less because they are lazy. But the fact still remains that young people do not think that they have a huge stake in the society. This has changed due to the changes in the trends of marriage and settlement which has increased with the changing times. In earlier times where people would get married by 25 and want to settle, the trends have changed to over 26. Also, at many places young people might not think that there is anyone whom they could vote.

For students who move away to go to college, what unique challenges do they face with regard to voter registration and voting?

For students who move away to go to college the main challenge is of registration of vote. In most of the cases, students might forget to register to vote, until the time is very late. Also, many students do not even have licenses or a passport, which is mandatory pin many of the states for voting.

What, if anything, can be done to improve the situation?

In order to improve this situation, either there have to be better leaders, as dynamic as Obama, who would pull out young people and compel them to vote. Also, there have to be more youth oriented leaders who value their votes and more awareness about the laws of registration of voting.
