Discuss the concepts of “patriarchy” and “paternalism” and their role in feminist theory.
Patriarchal and paternal both refer to male dominant societal structures. These structures regard male as the head of the family and male children as heirs and the family is known with the male heirs. The role of women is limited because they are considered as child bearing machines and they aren't given right to property.
It's not about the role but it's about the co-existence of all the structures together. Feminists want equal rights, so typically speaking they aren't against men but they only want their rights back. They appreciate the co-existence of paternal and patriarchal society. The role is complimentary rather than opposite.
Feminist theory tries to understand gender inequality, explain the gender roles and recommend new way of working together.
