What cellular mechanism link caloric restriction and longetivity?

What cellular mechanism link caloric restriction and longetivity?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The cellular mechanism that links caloric restriction and longevity is the significantly lower rate of mitochondrial free radical generation leading in rodents that were Calorie-restricted fed due to a lower rate of accrual of tissue oxidative damage. As, the plasma concentrations of insulin and triiodothyronine is significantly reduced in calorie-restricted feeding conditions and these hormones exert transcriptional control of expression of the desaturase enzymes that are important in the control of membrane lipid unsaturation, (Merry, 2002)
