Answer #1

Culture is defined as the collection of shared values, beliefs and norms of a specific group of people. It influences the manner we learn, live and behave. Because of this, many theorists believe that culture is an important shaper of our personality.

Cultural values are the core principles and ideals upon which an entire community exists. This is made up of several parts:

  • customs, which are traditions and rituals;
  • values, which are beliefs; and
  • culture, which is all of a group's guiding values

Our values inform our thoughts, words and actions. Our values are important because they help us to grow and develop. A person's upbringing is an important determinant of their beliefs and behaviours, and a person's culture is a big part of their upbringing. Think about your own cultural background and the values and beliefs that exist in that society.

Socialization allows society to get inside our very being. Please use Loe’s research on Bazooms’ waitresses as an example to elaborate this point, i.e. how “socialization” worked on these women who made the choice to take this special type of job. Why should we be concerned about the disappearance of sports that are unique and native to other cultures, if at all? Or is this a natural progression of civilization?
