Is love addiction a real problem despite the fact that is not listed as an official diagnosis in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Addictive behavior can apply to love. The behavior patterns of people are suffering from love addiction can be crippling and destructive; they can be as damaging as drug addiction.

Borderline Personality Disordered individuals live in unbearable psychic pain while they love and in severe cases, they are on the border between reality and psychosis. The illness distorts the perceptions, causing the development of an antagonistic behavior and making everything perilous including loving. The pain and terror of abandonment and feeling unwantedness can be so great that the person may turn suicidal
