Question

Generate your own hypothesis about differences in how and what males and females order in restaurants. How could you set up an experiment to test your hypothesis? Be sure to include independent and dependent variables.

Answer #1

**Aim**: To find out if there are any differences
in how and what males and females order in restaurants.

**Null Hypothesis**- There will be no differences
in how and what males and females order in restaurants.

**Methodology**

**Design**- This will be a between groups cross
sectional study which will consist of two groups, males and
females.

**Sample and Venue**- Males and females who order
at a restaurant.

**Variable**:

**Independent Variable** - The gender of the
person, viz. male or female

**Dependent variable** - How and what they order at
the restaurant.

**Tools**- Scales or measures to asses the how and
what the two groups order a the restaurant.

**Procedure**- Orders will be taken from the sample
consisting of both the groups, the measures will be on how and what
they order in the restaurants. Scoring and analysis will be done to
find out if there are any differences between both the groups.

1. In a testing experiment:
a. What is the difference between a hypothesis and a
prediction?
b. How do you decide if the outcome of the experiment is/is not
consistent with the prediction?
c. How do you make a judgment about the hypothesis? How do the
assumptions you made in your method enter into making this
judgment?
2. In an observational experiment:
a. What is an independent variable?
b. What is the dependent variable?
c. Give an example from your...

What is your chosen hypothesis test? What is your
rationale?
Research Question: Do males and females differ in verbal IQ
(VerbIQ)?

Dr. Su is interested in whether males and females differ in
their verbal ability. She selects 5 males and 5 females to
participate in her study. She administers everyone a test of verbal
ability (scores ranging between 0-20, higher scores represent
higher ability). Here are the scores
Males: 10, 10, 12, 12, 16
Females: 9, 12, 12, 15, 17
Set up non-directional hypotheses for the independent t-test.
Provide the decision rule, illustrating with a drawing. Conduct an
independent t-test, report...

Using the scientific method, design your own simple
psychological research study and describe it. In your description,
please identify:
1. What is your theory? What is your
hypothesis? Make sure your
theory/hypothesis relates to psychology and involves human
participants.
2. What kind of sample will you use? Why? How will you recruit
them?
3. Which research design you’ll be using to test your hypothesis
(experimental or correlational)?
Why did you choose this design?
4. How you will split your participants into...

What is your interpretation on how we measure Knowledge? In your
own informed opinion do you think it is right or fair to say males
are more intelligent than females due to the fact that their brains
are on average much larger than females?
Using what you have learned in this module, what other factors
should be taken into account when measuring knowledge between males
and females? Or is brain size the only way to measure
intelligence?

Design an experiment about how Lima beans soaked in water
changed in mass and volume
Questions posed include: Do beans get larger when soaked? Do
beans get heavier (weigh more) when soaked?

You are now the manager of your
favorite grocery store. Your job is to improve the store aesthetics
and products to make sure that more shoppers come in to shop. You
are asked to come up with a regression analysis to answer these
questions.
1.) If you were to run a
normal regression analysis, what would your dependent variable
be?
2.) Come up with three
relevant independent variables to capture “improve the store
aesthetics and products”.
3.) Write down the...

do
you want to test the hypothesis that coffee consumption increases
hair loss. Describe how you would perform the experiment to test
out the hypothesis. In your description identify the following:
control, independent variable, and dependent variable.

Choose a question/problem you are interested in, come up with a
testable hypothesis, and design a simple experiment to help answer
this question. In your design, address the following:
1. What is your hypothesis? People infected
with COVID 19 recover at a faster rate when given an injection of
remdesivir than those that receive no injection or
hydroxychloroquine.
2. Identify the following:
a. Independent variable – what variable are you
manipulating
b. Dependent variables – what are you
measuring; what...

pressure than males. The doctor obtains the blood pressure from a
sample of patients during their annual check-up. Below is the
