Masaai tribe that includes sixteen indigenous communities that live in southern Kenya and Northern Tanzania in the Eastern part of Africa. They were living together with the nature. They believe that they were sent God to look after the cattles and the land. Men make the fence around the house that women make. Men are divided into three main categories, elders provide advice on the day today activities, men work as soldiers protecting the cattles and the lands and the boys herd the cattles. Women take care of the household works. Limited access to the land and resources has forced the Masaai into poverty because the cattles need more water and grassland.
Their life style is changing drastically as they have started mingling with the outside world. They were self sufficient so far, but now they have started moving to the cities doing odd jobs. This is breaking the traditional life style of the Masaai who live in harmony with the nature. They trade sheep, goat and cows with the outsiders for other items they need either for cash or for goods. Their primary food items are milk, meat and blood. Blood is rich in protein, it'sgiven for circumcised person, diseased and the women who just gave birth.
The recent conflict that they undergo is the attack from lions. They kill and force people into crisis. Richard Turere a boy who was taking care of the cattles found a solution for this conflict. He first thought that the lions are lights but they didn't because the light that he set was not moving and the lions rationalized after a while. So, he on his own invented his own equipment, moving lights with a solar powered battery. This blinking lights in different places stopped the lions from getting into the herd. He thus found a solution to the nature Vs human clash. Otherwise his people had killed six lions by then. He got admission into one of the international schools in Kenya. Now helps other people install lights in other peoples' fences. Nature and man thus have to live in harmony without harming each other.
