Cluster A or 'odd' personality disorders are characterized by eccentric thinking or behavior along with social and emotional withdrawal. This category includes many characteristics that resemble milder symptoms of schizophrenia and include paranoid personality disorder, schizoid personality disorder, and schizotypal personality disorder. For example, paranoid personality disorder involves features such as a baseless suspicion others, while mistrusting others and interpreting their motives as evil-intentioned.

On the other hand, Cluster B or 'dramatic' personality disorders is marked by exaggerated, deceitful and highly unpredictable thinking or behavior. This cluster includes antisocial personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, histrionic personality disorder and narcissistic personality disorder. For instance, histrionic personality disorder is marked by pervasive attention-seeking behavior including being inappropriately seductive and displaying superficial and exaggerated emotions.
