Contrast Rogers’s ideas about marriage with more traditional views. Do you see problems or advantages in Rogers’s approach?
Carl Roger's views on marriage are very different from the traditional views on marriage. The society has a view that marriage is an institution, but rogers thought that marriage is a process which requires both the partners to work on their relationships as this is very important if a relationship has to be successfully. He says that partners should start working on their problem and try to solve it instead of running away from the problems and avoiding them.Communication is very important in a relationship, the couples should communicate with each other their feelings and it is best when their is nothing hidden between them.
Their are many advantages in the approach carl rogers as marriage is not seen as a rigid institution which is forced upon a person, instead the responsibility is on the partners themselves to make their relationship successful. Rogers emphasized on communication as one the important aspects in having a healthy relationship, wherein the partners are aware of their own feelings, emotions etc. In this approach, there is no set roles for the couples which gives them more opportunity to explore their own choices.
