Structural-functional theory of social stratification of Davis and Moore; social stratification i.e. the inequality in society is functional and it is necessary for maintaining a society's state of equilibrium i.e. stability.

According to the Conflict Theory by Marx and Engels; there are, contradictions in the interests in a society which lead to the conflict over scarce resources between the capitalist class and the worker which is the foundation of social society.
