What might happen in the United States if the gap between rich and poor continues to widen?

United States is one of the topmost country that is leading in income disparity.If this rate of income disparity continues and the gap between the rich and poor continue to widen,the socio economic problems as poverty, unemployment, increase in crime rates will increase proportionately according to the rise. This will create a condition of social conflict between the rich and poor,as the poor will always feel that they are being exploited and neglected.This also will hamper the socio-economic development of the country as emphasis will be more on providing basic relief measures to the poor class of the society rather than upliftment of them.
