Negotiation is a process of dialogue or discussion that is aimed at reaching an agreement.

The main characteristics of negotiation is dialogue to reach an agreement that safeguards the values and interests of the negotiating parties with minimal conflict.

Competing is conflict of interest that cause tension and cooperation is working for a common goal of interest, whereas, negotiation is a process in which the conflicting interests and subjects are discussed and tried to reach to an agreement that may ease the strain or tension.

The other forms of social interactions are cooperation, competition, coercion, conformity and social exchange.Social exchange has more similarity to negotiation, but it does not include discussion as a necessity.
