Functionalist theory of stratification; is based on the view of Davis-Moore according to which social inequality or stratification is necessary because it fulfills the vital needs of a system.

Conflict theory is based on Karl Max’s view that stratification of the society is based on the presence of two classes the capitalist who owns the means of production and that labor i.e. the proletariat who works for the capitalist class.

Modern conflict theory of stratification is based on; C. Wright Mills’ view, that; social structures are created due to a conflict between people with differing interests and resources. ‘Unequal distribution of power and resources in the society’. Influences the structure of the society
