briefly explain how people learn prejudice
Individuals are not born with prejudiced attitudes, rather, it
is acquired during the process of socialization. Like all types of
learning, prejudice may be acquired through the following
processes:
1. Association: We may learn to a link social groups with
undesirable characteristics such as poverty, illiteracy, crime,
violence etc.
2. Reinforcement: The environment around us may reward us for
prejudiced attitudes and behavior. For instance, expressing disgust
against a particular ethnic group might be encouraged by one's
parents/peers.
3. Modelling: By observing others around us showing prejudice, we
may learn to imitate them.
