3. Describe the difference between closed-ended and open-ended questions when conducting a qualitative interview.
Closed ended questions are those which limit the answers of the respondents to few options. These questions are answered by either Yes or No, or are limited like, 5 options on a Likert scale. They can be useful when the aim is a quick research or when sample size is very large.
Example - Do you like this soap?
Are you happy or sad today?
Open ended questions are those which allow the respondent to interpret and answer it as they choose. They are designed to elicit responses that are more than just one word. They are useful in qualitative research as they provide rich data even if sample size is small.
Example- How was your experience using the new soap?
How are you feeling today?
