Explain the how the Kansas-Nebraska Act acted as the impetus to the genesis of the Civil War?
Kansas nebraska act of 1854 was a bill proposed by Stephen Douglas that allowed settlers of the state of Kansas and Nebraska to decide whether or not slavery be allowed within a new state's border. The bill was with direct conflict with the Missouri compromise which prohibited slavery in the north.
The masses of North were angry that such a bill was even considered to become a law and on may 30th 1854 Congress passed the bill leading to further anger. Thus this lead to an election in 1855 where supporters of slavery and those against it were the opponents. This election was won by treasury and cheating thus settlers of the North's refusal to accept these results and holding their own elections where in the proslavery supporters refused to vote. Thus the two rival governments were set up in the state leading to civil war.
